About the player
Gabriel Popović scored in the quarter-final of the 2022 AFC U-20 Asian Cup against Uzbekistan, one of five goals he managed in eight caps for the Young Socceroos.
Born in Westminster, Popović grew up through the Australian system, first at Sydney United 58 and then at Western Sydney Wanderers, before a youth stint at Perth Glory led to a senior contract there in 2019. He played in the A-League for the club until 2020, when he left for Europe on a free transfer to the Greek side Xanthi.
After a year in Greece he joined Croatian club NK Rudeš, then signed for Catania in Italy's Serie C in 2023.
Popović returned to Perth Glory for the 2025/2026 season, making nine appearances and scoring twice before a move to Sydney FC on a two-year deal.
