About the player
Mauricio Josué Cerritos Saravia made his name at Luis Ángel Firpo after a free transfer from Atlético Marte, where he had come through as a senior player from January 2021. Once installed as a regular starter for Firpo, he turned into an attacking force from midfield: eight goals in nine league appearances during the 2024/2025 season, and he added two more in three matches the following campaign.
The high point came in the Apertura 2025 final. Firpo drew 0-0 with Alianza FC and needed penalties to settle it, winning the shoot-out 5-4 to end a run of twelve years without a title. It was the first major trophy of a senior career that began with a modest three-year spell at Atlético Marte before Firpo came calling.
Internationally, Cerritos has represented El Salvador at senior level since making his debut in June 2023, having already passed through the under-17 and under-20 sides. He featured in fixtures against South Korea and Qatar in June 2026, continuing a path that started with the youth setup, where he scored three goals for the under-17s.
