About the player
Rhyan Grant has never needed to look for another club. Before that came a modest junior path through Canowindra Juniors and Bathurst '75 FC, then the New South Wales and Australian Institutes of Sport.
He scored the equaliser in the 2016–17 decider, and three years later struck the winning goal in extra time of the 2019–20 grand final, a performance that earned him the Joe Marston Medal as man of the match. A penalty shootout win in 2018–19 and a further title in 2022–23 rounded out four championships, alongside four premierships and an FFA Cup triumph over Adelaide United in 2017. Grant was named in the PFA Team of the Year in four consecutive seasons between 2016–17 and 2020–21, and the club made him captain for the 2024–25 season after Luke Brattan's departure.
He made his Socceroos debut against Lebanon in November 2018 and went on to earn 21 caps, scoring his only goal against Vietnam in a 2021 World Cup qualifier. He started all five of Australia's matches at the 2019 Asian Cup but missed out on selection for the 2022 World Cup, his last cap coming against Japan in March 2022. A one-year contract extension signed in August 2025 has kept him at Sydney FC through the 2026–27 season.
