About the player
Yair Abonía came up through the Deportivo Cali academy and made his professional debut there before moving on loan to Orsomarso in the Colombian Primera B, where he stayed for three seasons. A move to Real Soacha Cundinamarca followed, again in the second tier, before he stepped up to Primera A with Internacional de Bogotá at the start of 2025.
That first taste of the top flight came with a twist. Rather than staying at Internacional, Abonía was sent out on loan to La Equidad for the 2025 season, making his debut for the club against Millonarios. He returned to Internacional de Bogotá at the turn of the year before a fresh loan took him to Cúcuta Deportivo, where he now plays as a right-back wearing the number 26 shirt.
Across his career in the Primera A, Primera B and Copa Colombia combined, Abonía has built up close to 135 appearances, with four goals to his name — three in the second tier and one in the Copa Colombia. His disciplinary record includes 19 yellow cards and a single red. He has not featured for Colombia at senior or youth international level.
