Al-Ramadi Stadium

Al-Ramadi Stadium has lived through a war. On July 19, 2015, the stadium was blown up by ISIS militants, reducing the structure to rubble during their occupation. The damage was so severe that the site had to be cleared before any hope of return to sport remained. The rebuilding effort began only after the liberation of Anbar province in 2017. It was not a simple repair but a complex rehabilitation managed by the Iraqi government’s REFAATO fund, with support from UN-Habitat and the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS. The goal was not just to restore the stands, but to reclaim the space for the community. The stadium reopened for use in 2018, marking a symbolic return to normalcy, though further renovation works were reported in 2021 by the Iraqi Ministry of Youth and Sports. Today, it serves as the home of Al-Ramadi SC in the Iraqi Stars League. There is a discrepancy in the official numbers regarding how many people can fit inside: Wikipedia lists a capacity of 10,000, while StadiumDB and Europlan-online.de state 15,000. The surface is natural grass, unchanged by the conflict. It is a functional venue.
