## Arena Zagreb: A Different Kind of Ground
This is not a football ground, and it never has been. While GNK Dinamo Zagreb plays at Stadion Maksimir, this building serves a different purpose entirely.
Inside, wooden parquet covers the floor, a surface designed for handball and basketball rather than grass.
The arena opened in December 2008, constructed in just over five hundred days for the World Men's Handball Championship that same year. Croatia played Russia in the opening match before a crowd of 15,200, a figure that remains the standard capacity for handball fixtures. The building belongs to the City of Zagreb and operates under Arena Zagreb Ltd.
Since opening, it has hosted major competitions including the 2018 European Men's Handball Championship and the 2012 European Futsal Championship. RK Zagreb, the local handball club, has called this venue home since 2009, while the national team uses it for international matches. The arena also hosted the 2016 Davis Cup Final, demonstrating versatility beyond indoor football.
