Arthur Davies Stadium

The Arthur Davies Stadium sits in the Ndeke township, a working-class corner of Kitwe. The ground was built in 1977 by the Copperbelt Energy Corporation, which still owns it, and named after Arthur Walter Davies, a referee and the club’s first chairman. It has held that name since the beginning.

What makes this place different from the identical one down the road is its history of sharing. Before the current structure rose from the rubble of an earlier stadium in 1988, Kitwe United and Ndola United played here. Later, Nkana FC used it as a home when their own ground was unavailable, turning what was always a Power Dynamos home into a shared battleground. The primary tenant has been there since 1971, even if the pitch itself arrived six years later. The surface is natural grass, kept flat under floodlights that cut through the humid Zambian nights. The capacity is often cited as 12,000, though standing areas likely push the number higher, a figure that does not matter much compared to the intensity of the Kitwe Derby.

The stadium has hosted more than just league matches. It saw the 2019 Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield Final and recent Absa Cup semifinals, but its true character is revealed in the smaller moments. In April 2025, crowd trouble led to vandalism after a late penalty, a reminder that the rivalry runs deep. Just months before, in December 2024, the ground hosted a joint funeral for three fans killed in a traffic accident following a derby. It is a place that gathers people for celebration and sorrow alike. As of 2026, Power Dynamos have requested an upgrade to meet CAF standards, sensing that the old bones may not hold forever. Until then, it stands as a testament to the endurance of the game in the Copperbelt.
