Centre sportif de la Queue d'Arve

The Centre sportif de la Queue d'Arve is a multi-sport complex located in Geneva, Switzerland. For years, it stood as a provisional facility, a collection of halls and courts that served the local community. It is a complex defined by utility rather than spectacle. The heart of the venue is a velodrome housing a central multi-sport field. This is not a pitch for a league team; it is a space shared by badminton, pétanque, and roller hockey. The original grandstand held barely 260 seats, a number so small it was barely worth noting. But plans are changing. A renovation project, approved in early 2025 with a budget of 13.5 million Swiss francs, aims to transform the quiet complex. By 2029, retractable grandstands will rise, expanding the capacity to 3,260. It is a future ambition for a place that has long been content with anonymity. The city owns the site, and the city maintains it. There is no heating system for the ground, no illuminated floodlights visible from the street. It hosts tournaments like the Geneva Games and smaller events, but no football club calls it home. The atmosphere is not one of roaring crowds, but of focused activity. It is a place where the sport is secondary to the infrastructure, a multi-purpose hub that has waited decades for its moment to shine.
