Gotthelf-Halle

The Gotthelf-Halle sits as a modern addition to the Schulhaus Neufeld complex in Thun. The hall itself is defined by its steel and translucent plastic roof.

Inside, the venue hosts DHB Rotweiss Thun, the local women’s handball club that plays in the Swiss Spar Premium League. The hall also opens its doors for martial arts, hosting the Swiss Ju-Jitsu Championships and various Judo training camps.

The building’s identity is tied to its location at Sustenstrasse, a street that leads away from the main tourist thoroughfares of the town. It was constructed by architects who prioritised structural integrity over ornamentation, a decision that has served the community well for nearly two decades. There are no former names to confuse the history, no legendary crowds recorded in the archives, and no dramatic events etched into the memory of the city. It is simply a place where sport is played, a hall that serves its purpose without fanfare. The roof catches the rain, the floor holds the players, and the neighbourhood goes about its business.
