Kjelsåshallen
Oslo, Norway
Kjelsåshallen is a functional building on Asbjørnsens vei 3. It is owned by UBF, the authority responsible for sports facilities in the city. Inside, the floor is finished in wooden parquet, the standard surface for the games played here: handball and basketball. Kjelsås Idrettslag use the hall as their main arena, hosting matches for their senior men’s and women’s teams. Those teams compete in the 1. divisjon or the 2nd division of Norwegian handball. It is worth noting that the football section of the club plays elsewhere, at Grefsen stadion.
It features a spectator stand with a glass railing and a small kiosk for refreshments. The hall gained brief attention in February 2005 when it was temporarily closed alongside ten other Oslo sports venues following a safety inspection. Authorities had identified collapsible partition walls in Kjelsåshallen, similar to those that caused a collapse in Haugenstuahallen, requiring checks before the doors could reopen. Kjelsås IL has always played here, and the hall has never been renamed.
It is a hall where basketball and handball are played, and where the local community gathers to watch them.
