Nuevo Los Cármenes

The Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes sits in the Zaidín district of Granada, and its character is defined by the Sierra Nevada visible beyond the stands. In the photographs, the snow-capped peaks appear directly behind the floodlights, a backdrop that changes the atmosphere of a matchday compared to the flat plains of the rest of the country. The stadium itself is compact and functional, with the stands rising steeply from the pitch. The most striking feature is the colour scheme: the seats are a uniform, deep red, which creates a solid block of colour that contrasts sharply with the green of the natural grass pitch.

Granada CF have played here since the ground opened in 1995. The structure is simple, with a covered main stand and open terraces on either side. The floodlight masts are tall and slender, positioned at the corners of the pitch rather than embedded in the stands. The advertising hoardings are mostly red, with the name "PULEVA" visible on the main banner in one view. In the other photograph, the stands are empty, revealing the concrete steps and the metal railings that separate the tiers. A white tarp covers the centre circle in the second image, likely for protection during wet weather, a common sight on a natural surface in southern Spain.

The capacity is listed at 21,600, though temporary corner stands were added during the 2023–2024 season to push the figure higher. Those extra seats have since been removed following the club’s relegation. The stadium has not undergone a major rebuild since its inauguration, though minor upgrades to lighting and drainage have taken place. It is not a large venue by European standards, but its proximity to the mountains gives it a distinct identity. There are no luxury boxes or excessive glitz; it is a ground built for football, with the mountains always present to remind spectators of the city’s location. The pitch is well-maintained, with the grass cut in clear stripes, and the touchlines are marked with white paint.
