Pabellón Insular Antonio Moreno
Telde, Spain
It sits in Telde, but it is not the stadium where the local football team plays. The Pabellón Insular Antonio Moreno is a box of a different kind. You can see it from the street at C/ Mesonero Romano S/N, tucked into the Las Remudas neighbourhood, but the action is indoors. The name comes from Antonio Moreno González, a local sports figure, and the building opened in January 1992.
The surface is not grass. It is a synthetic Teraflex Azul court, blue and flat, built for handball. The pavilion is small; it holds 600 spectators. There is no grand tier or sweeping view, just a few rows of seats that face the playing area. The crowd is close to the players, which changes the way a game feels.
Rocasa Gran Canaria, also known as CB Remudas, play their home matches here. They are a handball club, and this is one of the few exclusive handball courts in Spain. The facility is also shared with basketball teams including BC Telde and BC Mayantigo Telde, as well as various youth squads. The building has been renovated in 2000, 2017, and 2022, keeping the floor in the best possible condition for the sport.
It is not a place for a football derby, though the local side UD Telde plays at the Estadio Municipal Pablo Hernández. The Pabellón Insular Antonio Moreno is a working venue. It hosts regional and national championship matches and serves the community.
