Pabellón Municipal de A Sangriña: Stadium in A Guarda

Pabellón Municipal de A Sangriña sits on Paseo de Portugal in the town of A Guarda. The pavilion has hosted Mecalia Atlético Guardés since the club’s foundation in 1967, and the ground has maintained its original name since it opened in 1987.

What defines the place is its recent transformation. A tender in 2022 for €1,870,667.53 led to a major remodel completed on January 28, 2023. The renovation increased capacity from 500 to 700 spectators, added new stands, and updated the facade and roof. The club plays in the División de Honor Femenina, the Spanish women’s handball premier league, and the pavilion hosts basketball, volleyball and futsal as well.

The interior is a parquet floor, as suited to indoor sports rather than the grass or artificial turf found at outdoor grounds. The venue is described as a multi-purpose sports pavilion — a designation that accounts for the flexibility of its layout.

The address remains Paseo de Portugal, s/n, 36780 A Guarda, Pontevedra, a location that has not changed since opening.
