PalaChiarbola
Trieste, Italy
Formerly: Palazzetto dello Sport Giorgio Calza
The place sits in the Chiarbola district of Trieste. It opened in 1970, designed by the architect Mário Zaratini, and it has been owned by the Municipality of Trieste ever since.
Inside, the floor is wooden parquet. The capacity is small, around 2,000 people when you count standing room.
It is officially the Palazzetto dello Sport Giorgio Calza, named for a wrestler who died in 1970. A plaque marks his memory at the entrance. The locals, however, call it Pala Chiarbola, sticking to the district’s name.
A boxing match for the WBA Inter-Continental title took place here in 2008.
