It is not a place built for permanence in the traditional sense. The arena opened in 2006, a renovation that replaced older facilities and brought a multi-purpose hall to the city. The acoustics are not unlike any other indoor sports centre in the world, but the sightline is close enough that you can see the details of the game. Players move across the blue surface while officials and ball boys keep to the sidelines. The roof is a grid of steel trusses, heavy and industrial, holding up the lights that illuminate the court. There is no grand architecture here, no attempt to make the building a monument. It is a place to watch sport, nothing more and nothing less.
