PalaVis sits quietly at the junction of Via Orti and Via Garibaldi in Lavis.

Inside, the space is defined by its timber floor. It is a hard surface, but it offers the quick, sharp turns required by the sports that fill its calendar. The capacity is modest, just 1,500. There is nowhere to hide in this room.

This proximity has become a home for Pallamano Pressano, a handball side that plays in the top Italian division. The club has found a rhythm here, and the small crowd that gathers on match days seems to press against the players in a way that larger arenas cannot replicate. The arena has also seen other tenants, including a basketball club that has called Lavis home for decades, and a team from Sicily that used the venue as a temporary base.

The building opened on July 5, 1998, which was none of the world's most historic dates, but it was marked by a match between the Italian and Russian women's national volleyball teams. That game set the tone for the venue: a place for serious competition rather than spectacle. Management stays with the local sports association, which keeps the focus on the community rather than the commercial side. In a province known for its mountains and its history, PalaVis is simply a room where the game is played, without fuss or fanfare.
