Polideportivo José A. Gasca
San Sebastián, Spain
Formerly: Polideportivo Municipal de Anoeta
The Polideportivo José A. Gasca sits in the Amara Nuevo district of San Sebastián. It is a hall built for utility. The roof is a heavy, industrial lattice of steel girders and trusses that spans the entire width of the building. It is an iron framework, supported by thick pillars, giving the interior a cavernous, warehouse-like feel.
The venue opened on January 30, 1970, originally as the Polideportivo Municipal de Anoeta. It was renamed on February 25, 1992, to honour José Antonio Gasca, a director and coach instrumental in founding the ACB, the Spanish Basketball League. The court dominates the space, a parquet surface painted in broad swathes of blue and cream. The current occupant is Askatuak, the local basketball club, who play here alongside the handball side, Balonmano Bera Bera.
The spectator arrangements are basic.
