The ground stands in Cửa Nam District in Vinh. It was built with German support and opened in 1973, though it has been rebuilt since, most recently for the 2003 investment that added the roof to Stand A. The pitch is Bermuda grass.
Sông Lam Nghệ An F.C. plays here, and the crowd usually fills the seats when the team pushes for the V.League 1 title. The last time they did that was in 2011, after a 1-1 draw against Hà Nội T&T in the final. The stadium also hosted the Vietnamese Cup final in 2017, which Sông Lam won, and an AFC Cup match on April 10, 2018 when they took apart Tampines Rovers 2-1. Hồng Lĩnh Hà Tĩnh FC has used the pitch as a home ground in 2025 when the fixture list required it.
