Schulanlage Schönau

There is nothing here to look at from the road. What stands along Schönauweg is a school complex built in two phases: the first block dates to 1959, the second to 1970, with a special tract and an auditorium added later. The football pitch is not part of the main buildings but sits nearby, a patch of artificial turf that replaced the old surface after the previous ground was demolished in 2024. The new pitch opened in August 2026.

FC Steffisburg, founded in 1952, calls this site home. The original ground held 1,000 spectators according to Europlan-online.de, but the new setup is different. Fixed and extendable stands sit alongside a gallery, with a multi-purpose room inside the complex able to hold up to 150, bringing the total capacity to around 500 for match days. There is no attendance record for the new pitch, and no former names have been recorded — it has always been Sportplatz Schönau.

The buildings themselves are unremarkable to passers-by. The site is not a stadium in the traditional sense, but a municipal school and sports facility in Steffisburg, in the Thun District of the Canton of Bern.
