Søndermarkshallen
not found (database error), Denmark
Søndermarkshallen is not a place.
The confusion stems from a patchwork of facilities bearing the same name across Denmark. VK Raptus, a volleyball club founded in 2018, calls Frederiksbjerghallerne their official home.
To write about Søndermarkshallen in Aarhus is to write about a void. The city’s main indoor arena is Vejlby-Risskov Hallen, opened in 1969, but that is not the name in question. The name Søndermarkshallen belongs to a different town, a different street, a different set of wooden floors and fluorescent lights. It is a name that travels, appearing in search results for cities where it has no physical presence. The records do not hold a stadium here. They hold a question mark, a reminder that even in an age of digital archives, some things remain unplaceable. The ground is not here. The name is.
