Sporthal Groenoord

The Sporthal Groenoord sits at the edge of Schiedam, tucked into a quiet street rather than the centre of the city. It is a large hall built to keep rain and wind off a court. The building is plain enough to be anything, but it is not: the floor is marked for handbal and zaalvoetbal, and the four changing rooms are close to the entrance. You walk in and the space opens up to a permanent tribune that seats about 200 people. That is the part that makes the place for a match. The rest is storage, a kitchenette, and doors that open to the street. SHV DWS play here, and the hall has been a vaccination centre and a shelter when the city needed space. The floor remembers what has happened in it.
