Thomasgarten
Oberwil, Switzerland
The name Thomasgarten is often used for the local sports hall, but the actual home of FC Oberwil is Sportplatz Eisweiher. It is an outdoor pitch on Sägestrasse, not the indoor venue at Schmiedengasse.
There is no grandeur here, only function. With a capacity of 1,000, it is a place where everyone knows everyone. The club was founded in 1946, long before the current facilities were built.
The stadium opened in 1986, replacing an older setup. Since then, it has hosted local matches without any major changes to its footprint.
It is a community pitch, where the focus is on participation rather than spectacle.
The confusion with the school hall is common, but the distinction is clear. FC Oberwil plays their football outdoors, under the sky, on a patch of green that has served the town for decades. The capacity is small, but it is sufficient for the level of football played here. There are no records to boast about, only the steady rhythm of the game.
