Varbergs idrottshall

The most striking thing about Varbergs Idrottshall is that it is not the arena most visitors walk in. It sits back from the main sports precinct, away from the newer Arena Varberg and the Sparbankshallen building. It is the town’s original indoor facility, a place that has been around long enough to require an antiquarian investigation in 2021.

Inside, the hall is a working venue for a wide range of disciplines. It is the home ground for the handball club HK Varberg , but the walls echo with the sound of wrestling championships, judo tournaments, and dance practice. The floor is standard for a multi-purpose hall of its age, used for handball and floorball alike. There are stands (läktare) for spectators, though the exact capacity is not recorded in public sources.

Major maintenance has been carried out on the structure in recent years, keeping it serviceable for the clubs that call it home. It is distinct from the other venues in the town, which were built more recently and serve different purposes.
