Zakho International Stadium
Zakho, Iraq
The stadium sits near the Dalal Bridge in Zakho. The architecture is distinct: a sweeping roof structure made of white steel supports polycarbonate panels. Inside, the seating rows curve around the pitch.
Zakho SC plays its home matches here in the Iraqi Premier League, known as the Iraq Stars League. The ground opened in 2015 after a three-year construction period, a project funded by the local government and designed by an architectural firm from Sweden. While the seating capacity is generally listed at 20,000, some records suggest the space can accommodate more.
The venue gained prominence not for a league title, but for an opening ceremony that drew national attention. In June 2015, the stadium hosted a friendly against the national team, a match decided by two goals from Younis Mahmoud and Hussein Ali Wahid. The occasion was marked by the presence of high-ranking officials and former players.
Despite recent high-profile fixtures, the ground remains a quiet presence in the city.
