Liga Pro - Short Hockey (Russia) 2020/21

Liga Pro Short Hockey operates as an independent, semi-professional circuit within Russia’s sporting landscape. It is organized by the League of Professional Tournaments and functions entirely separate from the Russian Ice Hockey Federation pyramid. The league does not offer promotion or relegation to major national competitions such as the KHL or VHL, establishing itself instead as a commercial entity.

The competition centres on short hockey, a variant distinct from standard ice hockey. Matches are contested on a smaller rink measuring approximately 35 to 38 metres in length and 15 to 18 metres in width. Each side fields three or four players, excluding the goalkeeper. The format dispenses with offside and icing rules, featuring three periods of ten minutes each. If a match ends in a draw, the outcome is decided by penalty shots, beginning with four attempts per team.

Participation is limited to specific clubs, including Moskovskiy Ešelon, Molotoboytsy, Shest Trolley, Beliye Ldiny, Kalininsky Front, and Ice Banda. The league’s structure favours frequent tournaments, often held nightly, rather than a traditional continuous season table. These events are typically split into groups to manage the schedule efficiently.

Commercial associations characterise the league’s operations. It is heavily linked to betting organisations, notably Liga Stavok, and attracts attention for its high-scoring and fast-paced gameplay. While the exact founding year remains unclear in public records, tournaments have been documented as early as 2018. The league maintains a dedicated following among spectators and bettors who appreciate the rapid tempo of the matches.
