The Polska Hokej Liga (PHL) stands as the premier professional ice hockey competition in Poland. Since July 2023 the tournament has operated under the commercial title Tauron Hokej Liga following a sponsorship arrangement with the energy firm TAURON. The structure is managed by an independent limited liability company established in 2013, replacing earlier iterations that began as a regional tournament before formalising as a national league in 1955.
The current campaign features ten clubs competing in a closed system without promotion or relegation. The season schedule requires each side to play every opponent four times, resulting in 36 regular season matches. The format determines progression to the postseason through a straightforward qualification route: the top eight teams advance to the playoffs. These knockout stages employ best-of-seven series for the quarterfinals, semifinals and the final, while the bronze medal decider is contested over a best-of-three series. Matches tied after regulation time proceed to a sudden-death three-on-three overtime.
Cracovia holds the record for the most titles with twelve championships. GKS Tychy enters the 2026 season as the defending champion after securing the 2024–25 title. The league operates under the oversight of the Polish Ice Hockey Federation, which has governed the sport since its foundation in 1925.
The competition is distinguished by its size relative to regional peers and its historical approach to player eligibility. It grants a single berth to the Champions Hockey League and maintains specific regulations concerning foreign players, a topic subject to ongoing discussion within Polish sport regarding the development of domestic talent.
