SCA Cupen (Sweden) 2026/27

The SCA Cupen is an annual senior men’s ice hockey preseason tournament held in Sweden. Founded in 1974, it is organized by IF Sundsvall Hockey with long-term sponsorship from the packaging company SCA (Sundsvalls Cellulosa Aktiebolag). Recognized as Sweden’s oldest recurring preseason cup, the event operates outside the official league pyramid, which includes the SHL, HockeyAllsvenskan, and Hockeyettan. Instead, it serves as a preparation fixture for invited clubs.

The competition typically features four teams, usually regional rivals from northern Sweden. The participants include Brynäs IF, MODO Hockey, Timrå IK, and the host IF Sundsvall Hockey. Since 2026, the format has relied on a knockout stage comprising two semifinals, a bronze match, and a final. All matches take place in Sundsvall. If a game remains tied after 60 minutes of play, it proceeds to a 5-minute sudden-death overtime period featuring three players per side, followed by penalty shots if necessary.

Historical performance highlights Timrå IK as the most successful club with 15 titles. MODO Hockey follows with 7 wins, while Skellefteå AIK has secured 6. MODO Hockey claimed the most recent victory in 2024. The tournament maintains a distinct identity separate from the SHL playoffs, which determine the national champion at season's end, and the Svenska Cupen, a mid-season knockout competition. Its focus remains on the Gävle, Örnsköldsvik, Sundsvall, and Timrå corridor, functioning as a senior invitational derby event rather than part of the standard league structure. This regional emphasis defines its character within Swedish hockey.
