Brynäs beat Luleå 4-2 in the SHL on Saturday evening. The hosts took all three points at home, extending their unbeaten run to two games while Luleå dropped their second straight road match. The result keeps both sides level on points after two rounds.
They sit on the same mark in the table, Brynäs sixth and Luleå eleventh, each with one win, one loss and zero points between them. Two games played, two games played, nothing separating them on the board. That is how the league looks after this opening stretch.
Brynäs came into the fixture with mixed recent form. They had beaten Leksand 3-1 and thrashed Linköping 9-2, but lost heavily to Shelteå 7-2 and also fell to Luleå 4-3 in an earlier meeting. Luleå were similarly uneven — a win against Rögle 4-2 and a narrow victory here 4-3, followed by a 7-3 defeat to Frölunda and a loss to Timrå 3-4.
And here's the thing, we had called for the home side at 53 per cent confidence. The prediction held up. Brynäs were the ones who needed the win more, being the hosts, and they found a way to take it.
By then the gap in the table was still zero points, but the momentum shifted. Brynäs moved to two points with a positive goal difference, while Luleå remained level on points with a negative balance. One team riding a wave, the other looking for answers.
