Kolner — Frankfurt Lowen: 4:3, DEL

Köln defeated Frankfurt Löwen 4:3 in their DEL match on 2026-09-20. The home side earned their first points of the season in a tight contest that went beyond expectation.

Both teams entered the fixture having played only one game each, and both remained on zero points after the result. Köln moved off the bottom of the table on goal difference, while Frankfurt Löwen held fifth place despite the defeat.

Köln's recent form had been uneven. They had bounced back from a 4:8 loss to Grizzlys Wolfsburg with three straight wins — against Klagenfurt, Frölunda and Tappara — before that heavy defeat. To be fair, they were not quite themselves on the night.

Frankfurt Löwen came into the match with momentum. Three victories in a row, including a clean 5:0 against Schwenninger, had them looking strong. But one mistake ends it, as they found out in the closing stages.

We had given Köln the edge going in, calling a home win with 66 per cent confidence. The result vindicated that assessment. They had beaten Frankfurt Löwen 1:5 earlier in the season, and this time the outcome was narrower but still in their favour.

The scoreline tells a simple story. Four goals to three, nothing more complicated than that. Köln ended a barren spell and picked up two points where none were guaranteed.
