Olomoouc fell to Vítkovice 3-4 in the Extraliga on Tuesday evening, a result that tightened an already crowded mid-table. The visitors took all three points despite entering the fixture sitting 14th, while the hosts dropped further from 11th place.
We had given a home win at 53 per cent confidence, but the match unfolded in a different direction. By then the pattern was set — Vítkovice found a way through when it mattered, and Olomoouc could not respond.
Olomoouc arrived with mixed recent form, having beaten Kladno 4-1 on Saturday but losing to Kometa Brno 2-4 two days earlier. Vítkovice, meanwhile, came off a 6-2 victory over Mladá-Boleslav before a heavier 2-8 defeat to Třinec.
Both sides carry zero points after five and four games respectively, which tells you this is early season ground. The table still has room to move, and results like this one shift the balance more than the numbers alone suggest.
And here's the thing — seven goals across two teams does not always mean a spectacle. Sometimes it means both defences got dragged out of position, and the third period decided everything.
To be fair, Vítkovice showed enough composure to hold on after going behind. Olomoouc had chances, but they did not find a way through at the crucial moments.
The result leaves Olomoouc four points behind their nearest rivals and Vítkovice still searching for consistency. Seven-goal games do not come along every week, but this one will be remembered for the final minutes.
