Plzeň secured a narrow 2:1 victory over Montfield HC in the Extraliga on Sunday afternoon. The result keeps both sides level on points after four opening rounds of the campaign. Home advantage proved decisive in what was a closely contested affair.
Montfield had looked comfortable going into the final period, but Plzeň found a second wind. The hosts worked the channels well when it mattered most, pinning their visitors back. Montfield switched off at the back at a critical moment, and that lapse proved costly.
Our prediction of a home win came good, though we had only 52 per cent confidence in it beforehand. Sometimes the margin is thinner than the numbers suggest, and today Plzeň held their nerve when it counted. The away end never stopped creating chances, but the visitors could not find the equaliser.
Both sides now sit on zero points from four games. The standings tell us little at this early stage of the season. What matters more is the pattern of results — both teams have won twice and lost twice in equal measure.
Plzeň's recent form showed inconsistency, with heavy defeats mixed with convincing wins. Montfield had similar volatility, losing narrowly to Kometa Brno before thrashing Liberec White Tigers. This result does not dramatically shift either team's trajectory.
The goal difference remains unchanged for both clubs. Plzeň will hope this points toward better consistency going forward. Montfield must find a way to close out games they are leading.
