Tölzer Löwen secured a convincing 5:2 victory away to Riessersee in the Oberliga South on Friday evening. The result moves the visitors further clear in second place while Riessersee remain rooted to sixth after four matches.
We had backed the away side to win at 63 per cent confidence before kick-off, and the match played out exactly as we expected. Tölzer Löwen took control early and never looked back, with their attacking sharpness proving too much for a Riessersee side that struggled to find rhythm.
Riessersee's recent form has been patchy — they beat Passau and Füssen in quick succession but have since dropped points against stronger opposition. This time they paid for a sloppy opening, allowing Tölzer Löwen to settle into their game and dictate the tempo from the first period.
The visitors had already shown their scoring ability in previous outings, putting six past Zeller and four through against Heilbronner Falken. Against Riessersee they kept knocking on the door, and when a chance came they took it ruthlessly. Two goals in the second period effectively killed the tie.
By then Riessersee were chasing the game, throwing everything at it in search of a response. They managed two replies but could not find the consistency needed to turn this around. Tölzer Löwen weathered the storm and saw out the match without further incident.
The result leaves Tölzer Löwen with three wins from four games, sitting comfortably in second place. Riessersee's two wins and two losses keep them in sixth, with a growing gap forming between them and the teams above.
