Sparta Prague Edge Olomouc in Early Extraliga Encounter
Sparta Prague saw off Olomouc HC 5:2 in the Extraliga on Wednesday evening. The match took place at home for the hosts, who had already played twice this season. By then, both sides carried identical records of one win and one defeat from two games.
The result shifted the table slightly, even though both clubs remained on zero points. Sparta Prague held third place while Olomouc sat tenth, but neither side had accumulated enough points to separate them meaningfully yet.
What caught the eye was the contrast in recent runs. Sparta had beaten Kladno 5:2 in their previous home fixture, so the attacking flow was familiar. Olomouc, meanwhile, had lost 1-0 to Jihlava on their last outing and won 3-1 against Trenčín before that — a mixed patch.
And here's the thing: we had backed the hosts to win, with 61 per cent confidence. The prediction didn't materialise, but not because Sparta collapsed. Olomouc found their rhythm in the middle period and kept the score respectable despite the deficit.
Five goals from the hosts showed they could take the game away when needed. Two for Olomouc meant they weren't carried away entirely, though the final margin told the fuller story. The visitors saw it out with enough pride to avoid humiliation.
Both teams now turn to their next fixtures with questions to answer. Sparta will want to convert dominance into points, while Olomouc must work out why their form dips after strong starts. The table is still wide open, and that is how early seasons should feel.
