Forward Chayenne Daranciang was due to spend a day with the Walter Cup in Brighton, Michigan, but the trophy failed to turn up.
On 21 August the Cup did not arrive in Lethbridge, Alberta — — forcing forward Dara Greig to put off her own celebration with the trophy. That version was found and returned to Montreal Victoire on 25 August, four days after it disappeared, with the league saying only that it had been "lost in transit".
Victoire won the Walter Cup last season, the first time a Canadian team had done so since the league's launch in 2023. The competition has grown fast since then, expanding from six teams to 12 for the 2026/27 season.
Unlike the Stanley Cup, awarded to NHL playoff winners and accompanied at all times by dedicated keepers, the Walter Cup travels without permanent handlers. The trophy is named after Mark Walter, the league's founder and principal backer. The original sits in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto; it is the presentation copy, handed to the players themselves, that has now gone missing twice.
