Avangard Beats Metallurg 3:2 After Third-Period Brawl
Six players were ejected in a wild third-period fight after Provolnev hit Rashevsky, but Avangard held on to edge Metallurg 3:2 in overtime.
Avangard needed overtime to see off Metallurg 3:2, but the finish was overshadowed by a mass brawl in the third period that saw six players sent off.
The trouble started with the score at 2:2, in the 57th minute. Metallurg defenceman Vladislav Provolnev caught Avangard Forward Dmitri Rashevsky with a hit — a minute after Rashevsky had put the Omsk side's second goal in.
Avangard's Vasily Ponomarev and Nail Yakupov each took two minutes for roughing. Metallurg's Makar Khabarov and Egor Korobkin were given the same. Metallurg Forward Luke Johnson and Avangard defenceman Marsel Ibragimov picked up five minutes apiece for fighting.
Avangard settled it in overtime to take the win 3:2.
