Carolina retain an interest in Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, according to journalist Pierre LeBrun.
"One of the trade scenarios that seems too obvious to ignore is including Alexander Nikishin in a deal with Winnipeg for goaltender Connor Hellebuyck," LeBrun wrote. "Connor stated last month that he wants to change teams, and this week he failed to show up at training camp, which led the club to suspend the 33-year-old. League sources familiar with the situation, speaking on condition of anonymity because the talks are private, confirmed that Carolina remains interested in Hellebuyck — provided a deal can be found that works for everyone. The main sticking point in a possible trade involving Nikishin and Hellebuyck is whether Winnipeg would be willing to take on the same problem Carolina currently has: uncertainty over whether the player will sign a contract."
Hellebuyck's current contract carries an average salary of $8.5 million a year and runs through 2031.
