Dylan Larkin has declined to explain why he asked the Detroit Red Wings to trade him, and said he may never do so.
"I'm not ready to discuss this topic yet. I understand that the fans and everyone who cares about the club want answers to their questions. But I'm really not ready to talk about it yet. And I may never be ready. Making this decision was very difficult. It was not a spontaneous step. I take what I've done very seriously. I've come to this decision, but I'm not ready to discuss it yet. I understand why the club decided to strip me of the captaincy, and I'll treat that professionally. As for the reports about the list of teams for a possible move, I've stopped reading all of that. It's not true. And that's what I'll say on the matter," Larkin said.
The 30-year-old forward has spent 11 seasons with the Red Wings. His contract carries a cap hit of 8.7 million US dollars and runs through the end of the 2030/31 season, with a clause requiring his consent for any trade.
Reports had linked him with moves to Vegas, Florida and Minnesota, with Dallas also mentioned by some outlets. Larkin gave no indication of which, if any, of those clubs he would accept.
