Isakov: Yakovlev will help Torpedo a lot

Torpedo beat Avangard 5:1 on 22 September, ending a run of seven straight defeats, and head coach Alexei Isakov used the post-match press conference to break down the win and the club's newest signing, Alexei Yakovlev.

Isakov was asked about the goal Torpedo conceded to Livo, which he had earlier called a fluke. "This was our mistake. A goal is a goal, of course. First shift of the second period: it seemed like we had played a good first period, but unfortunately we made a mistake. We are cleaning up defensive zone turnovers," he said.

Three Torpedo players scored their first goals of the season in the game. Asked how much it matters that different players are getting on the scoresheet, Isakov said each goal builds confidence and expected the players who scored for the first time this season to play with more freedom as the campaign continues.

Isakov said Yakovlev, brought in from Sibir Novosibirsk, would compete for a spot in the top six.
