Tula Governor Orders Help for Struggling HC AKM

Dmitry Milyaev told officials to seek aid for HC AKM Tula after reports that three club teams could shut down on 28 September over lack of funding.

Tula's regional governor, Dmitry Milyaev, has instructed his government to look for ways to help HC AKM Tula after the club ran into financial trouble.

The order came after journalist Alexei Shevchenko said three professional teams in Tula would cease to exist on 28 September for lack of funding.

"Hockey is loved in Tula, and of course the parents of the children training at the Mikhailov Academy, at the youth Mikhailov Academy, are especially worried. So we ought to look for ways to help the club, meet with its management, discuss what to do next. And, well, reassure the parents' community too," said Milyaev, addressing his deputy Alexei Davletshin.

Davletshin replied that a meeting with the club's management and owners is planned, and that the outcome will be passed on to the parents of AKM's young players.

If AKM's finances are not resolved before 28 September, the deadline cited by Shevchenko, the region's professional hockey set-up in Tula could lose all three of its teams at once.
