Salavat Yulaev's Dean Stewart open to Russian citizenship
Canadian defenceman Dean Stewart says he has not thought deeply about a Russian passport but would consider it if his club's GM or agent asked.
Dean Stewart, the Canadian defenceman at Salavat Yulaev, said he has not yet thought seriously about Russian citizenship but would consider it. The KHL player's comments were reported by Championat.
"Yes, maybe I would consider such an option. Maybe if the general manager or my agent said they wanted it. But so far I haven't gone very deep into the topic," Stewart said.
Stewart has played in Russia since 2024. Before Salavat Yulaev he was with Vityaz, from the Moscow region.
Jeremy Roy, the Canadian at CSKA, has already said he wants a Russian passport. He gave the birth of his daughter in Moscow as the reason.
Stewart's answer leaves the decision to the club and his agent. If either raises it, the subject could move from a hypothetical to a live one.
