Skvortsov: Datsyuk Was My First Hockey Idol
Torpedo's 17-year-old forward names Pavel Datsyuk as his boyhood favorite, praises McDavid, MacKinnon, Makar and Ovechkin among today's stars.
Sergei Skvortsov, the 17-year-old forward in Torpedo's system, has named Pavel Datsyuk as the player who first caught his eye watching NHL highlights as a boy.
Among current stars, Skvortsov points to Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar. Alexander Ovechkin also makes his list, described in one word: "Legend."
He is wary of comparisons to any of them, though.
"I don't know who I could be compared to. Probably too early for that. I'm just trying to play my own game, my own hockey. I want to be different, to have no equal," Skvortsov said.
He rates speed as his main asset, and on that count one comparison suits him: "Yes, like McDavid."
