About the player
Aleksandr Saplinov's best campaign came far from the top flight. At Baltika Kaliningrad in the 2018/19 FNL season, the forward scored six goals in 13 appearances, form that earned him the FNL Player of the Month award for March 2019 and, at season's end, the FNL Player of the Season prize. That run persuaded Rostov to sign him that June for a fee of around €85,000.
His time in the Premier League proved harder going. Across four seasons at Rostov, Saplinov made 24 top-flight appearances and scored twice. He still has a goal to remember from that period: on his Premier League debut for Rostov, he scored against Spartak Moscow in the 2019 Parimatch Premier Cup.
After leaving Rostov in 2023, Saplinov signed for Spartak Kostroma on a free transfer. He was a key figure as the club won the Second League (Division A) title in the 2024/25 season, earning promotion to the First League.
In February 2026, he moved on again, joining Volga Ulyanovsk on a free transfer. He has settled quickly into his new attack, scoring four goals in nine appearances for the club so far in the 2026/2027 season.
Saplinov began his career at Energomash Belgorod before a spell at Sokol Saratov, both stops before his breakthrough at Baltika. He has not been called up to any Russia national squad.
