Branimir Hrgota

Branimir Hrgota's move to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer of 2012 followed a season that made the switch look inevitable: at Jönköpings Södra he had finished as the Superettan's top scorer with 18 goals in 25 games, an eye for the net that earned him the club's Player of the Year award before he had even left Sweden. Mönchengladbach signed him on a free transfer.

He spent four years at Gladbach before joining Eintracht Frankfurt in 2016, again on a free transfer. Hrgota scored in the penalty shootout along the way, against 1. FC Magdeburg and, pointedly, against his former club Mönchengladbach.

In 2019 he dropped down to SpVgg Greuther Fürth, a move that reshaped his career in a different way. He became club captain and, over the years that followed, the club's all-time leading scorer across the top two divisions. His contract at Fürth ran until the summer of 2026, when he left on a free transfer to join FC St. Pauli.

Alongside his club career, Hrgota has represented Sweden. He won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship with the national youth side in 2015, then had to wait until January 2019 for his senior debut, against Finland. He has since gone on to appear at a European Championship and a World Cup for Sweden.
