Calogero Rizzuto

Rizzuto's route to 1. FC Saarbrücken ran the long way round. He came through the youth ranks at SV Schafbrücke before joining Saarbrücken's own academy, then spent four years at 1. FC Kaiserslautern without ever making the step up from the reserves — 96 appearances and a single goal in the Regionalliga, all with the second team.

The breakthrough came at FC Erzgebirge Aue , where he arrived on a free transfer in 2015 and turned into an established starter, eventually racking up 170 league appearances and picking up the Saxony Cup along the way. A spell at Hansa Rostock followed, though it lasted less than a year before his contract ran out.

Saarbrücken brought him back in 2022, and the return has defined his career since. Bundesliga. At youth level he was capped twice for Germany's under-17s, though senior international recognition never followed.
