About the player

Christian Kinsombi was born in Räckelwitz and holds both German and Congolese citizenship through his parents. He came through the youth ranks at Wehen Wiesbaden before moving on to Mainz 05, progressing into that club's second team in the Regionalliga Südwest, where he made 42 appearances and scored twice.

From there his career took the route through Germany's lower professional tiers. A free transfer took him to KFC Uerdingen 05 in the 3. Liga, where he played 52 matches, before a further free move brought him into the 2. Bundesliga with SV Sandhausen, for whom he scored eight goals in 49 appearances between 2021 and 2023.

Hansa Rostock paid a fee of €200,000 for him in 2023, and he became a regular fixture in Rostock's midfield, reaching 77 appearances and 14 goals for the club. The team had been relegated from the 2. Bundesliga shortly before his arrival and, despite finishing fifth in the 3. Liga in both the 2024–25 and 2025–26 seasons, narrowly missed out on promotion each time. Cup football brought more reward: Kinsombi won the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Cup with Hansa in 2025, scoring in a 7–0 win over SV Pastow, and again in 2026 as Rostock beat the same opponents 3–0.

When his contract at Hansa expired at the end of June 2026, Kinsombi joined Energie Cottbus on a free transfer, becoming the club's first signing for their return to the 2. Bundesliga. Earlier in his career, he had attended a training camp with Germany's U-16 side but has not featured for any national team at competitive level.
