Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris grew up at CEDAC Cimiez before joining the OGC Nice academy in 1997, where he won the U-18 national title under coach Dominique Baratelli. He made his professional debut for Nice in October 2005, in a Coupe de la Ligue tie against Châteauroux, and stayed at the club until a move to Olympique Lyonnais in 2008.

His time at Tottenham Hotspur, where he arrived in 2012, was defined less by silverware than by longevity: he wore the captain's armband from 2015 until he left the club in 2024. Under his leadership Tottenham reached the Champions League final in 2019, beaten by Liverpool, and the EFL Cup final in 2021, lost to Manchester City, without ever lifting a major trophy.

Lloris's clearest triumph came with France. Capped 145 times between 2008 and 2022, the most of any French international, he captained the side to the 2018 World Cup, saving his best for the final against Croatia as France won 4-2, and was subsequently awarded the Legion of Honour. He also led France to the Euro 2016 final, lost to Portugal, and the 2022 World Cup final, lost to Argentina on penalties.

He joined Los Angeles FC as a free agent in January 2024, taking the number 1 shirt. In his first season there he set a club record with a 549-minute shutout streak, and in March 2026 he set an MLS record with five consecutive season-opening clean sheets, a run of 450 minutes without conceding. He was named to the MLS All-Star Team in 2024.
