Jeremie Agyekum Frimpong

Frimpong's route to the top of European football began at Manchester City's academy, which he joined in 2010 but left nine years later without a senior appearance. It was at Celtic that his career took shape: signed for a modest fee, he helped the club to a domestic treble in his first season, scoring three goals in fourteen league appearances.

The move to Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021, for a reported fee of €11 million, proved transformative. Frimpong became a regular in Leverkusen's side and a central figure in the club's historic 2023/24 campaign, when the team won the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal and the DFL-Supercup. Across his time at the club he made 133 league appearances and scored 23 goals, a notable return for a full-back. His form earned him places in the Bundesliga Team of the Season in both 2022/23 and 2023/24, as well as recognition in the UEFA Europa League Team of the Season.

Internationally, Frimpong represents the Netherlands and was part of the squad that finished third at the European Championship in 2024. His only goal for the national team came in a friendly against Canada.

In July 2025, Liverpool activated the release clause in his Leverkusen contract, paying €35 million to bring him to Anfield on a six-year deal — a move that closed one chapter of a career built largely in Scotland and Germany and opened another in the Premier League.
