About the player
João Fernandes Oliveira came through Sporting CP's academy after a brief spell in Famalicão's youth ranks, joining the Lisbon club's setup in 2008. His progress showed in the trophy cabinet at youth level: he won the Juvenis title in the 2015/16 season and the Juniores championship the following year, before working his way into Sporting CP B, where he spent three seasons between 2018 and 2021.
That development was recognised by Portugal's youth national teams. Oliveira was capped at under-20 level and was part of the squad that went to the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland, one of the clearer markers of his progress through the ranks at international youth football. He has not featured for Portugal's senior side.
A right-footed defender who operates primarily at right-back, Oliveira left Sporting CP for Feirense, where he now wears the number 20 shirt.
