About the player
Lawrence Shankland's route to the top of Scottish football's scoring charts began a long way from the game's summit, with a free transfer from Queen's Park into Aberdeen.
He became the first player to reach 20 league goals in a season since 1991–92, and in September 2025 passed 67 Premiership-era goals to stand as the competition's all-time leading scorer among players outside the Old Firm.
His time at Hearts ended in the summer of 2026, when he activated a break clause in his contract to join Rangers on a free transfer, signing a two-year deal with the option of a third and being handed the captaincy shortly afterwards. By the point of that move, his goal tally across all SPFL divisions since the 2013 merger stood at 175, the highest of any player in that era.
