About the player
Robert Klaasen passed through four of the Netherlands' best-known academies — Ajax, Haarlem, Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar — without ever making a senior appearance for any of them.
Kortrijk gave him his start in senior football before he returned home to Sparta Rotterdam, where he won the Eerste Divisie title. A loan, then a permanent move, took him to De Graafschap, and from there to Roda JC Kerkrade.
A free transfer took him to VVV-Venlo, and when his contract there expired in the summer of 2024, Klaasen spent six months without a club. He returned to the game in January 2025, signing with MVV Maastricht that ran to the end of that season. He has stayed in Maastricht's midfield since, scoring in his first league campaign at the club.
At youth level, Klaasen represented the Netherlands under-18 side, collecting caps and a goal between 2011 and 2013, though a call-up to the senior national team never followed.
